Meet Jordan Block, Attorney Recruiter

Updated: Feb 23, 2023

Whether you are an attorney ready for a new opportunity or a law firm or company legal department in hiring mode, you need to speak with Jordan Block, AGA Legal Staffing’s attorney recruiter with his finger on the pulse. Jordan tells us how he adds value to every search!

1. What’s top of mind for attorney candidates these days?

Remote and hybrid work is THE hot topic. Candidates seek flexibility. Mid-career attorneys want a better work-life balance, reasonable billing requirements and a supportive culture.

2. How’s the mood among law firms and legal departments?

The demand for talent remains, but economic uncertainty has led to more caution in hiring and concern about finding the right fit.

3. How did you get into the staffing industry?

The legal profession is literally in my DNA. My grandfather is a federal judge, my parents are both lawyers, and I am a law school graduate. I was never drawn to practice but really connect to the legal mindset. It’s second nature to be an advocate and defend my view.

Following my work on political campaigns, I wanted to combine my people skills with my affinity for the legal profession. An early opportunity in a legal staffing agency connected all the dots, and quickly showed me this is the career for me.

4. What does your job entail?

Recruiters have unique relationships because we function as agents representing interests on both sides of a deal.

I speak with candidates about what a lateral move means and bring them through the process. I also speak with law firms and legal departments on how they can present themselves to attract the candidates they want. I think I add great value when we get to later-stage negotiations; when the investment in various relationships can move the search forward to everyone’s benefit.

5. What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most?

I take great pride in matching exceptional candidates with our law firm clients. It is incredibly rewarding to connect a candidate with a long-lasting career opportunity. It is also equally as rewarding to know that the work we are doing is helping our law firm clients meet both their short and long-term objectives.

6. What are the toughest challenges you’ve had at work?

There are a lot of dynamics in play, often all at once. Rejection is always present. I’ve learned to persevere through rejection, “failure” and all the related emotions.

7. What is the best career lesson you have learned?

Don’t take things personally. Let things roll off your back when you can. It’s an important trait that the most successful recruiters have!

8. Three traits that describe you?

Social and easy to talk to; go getter and determined; resilient.

9. Use three words to describe AGA Legal Staffing.

Collaborative, supportive and flexible.

10. What do you like to do on your days off?

I am a 100% dog person and love spending my time with my fur babies, which include a new puppy that keeps me busy.

11. Do you have a favorite place in the world?

I am partial to warm weather, and really enjoy West Palm Beach. Of course, Southern California always offers endless fun options too.
